Evaluating Servlet Containers
Both Jetty and Tomcat meet all of the criteria outlined in the previous section, as follows:
· They provide servlet and JSP support conforming to the current specifications.
· They are evolving to meet the next generation of specifications.
· Both products can operate on a standalone basis or be integrated with popular Web servers.
· Both products are a part of sizable open source development communities with commitments to continue development and support into the future.
Other important features that these products have in common:
· They both work on JDK 1.2 and later Java platforms.
· They both support all Windows platforms from 9x through XP, and they both support Linux.
The bottom line: Both products meet our requirements. This means that we will need to gather more information to choose between the two products, namely by installing each product and comparing certain features. The features we are most interested in now are:
· Ease of installation
· Ease of operation
