After downloading JBoss, unzip the files into the directory in which you want JBoss to be installed. The recommended directory for Windows is C:\jboss. The files should be extracted under a folder named jboss-VERSION, where VERSION is the version number for that release of JBoss. We will refer to this folder as the JBoss home directory, or %JBOSS_HOME%[NR2], when it is referred to inside a path. After extracting all the files, you need to add the JBOSS_HOME variable to your environment. The basic method of doing so in Windows is by changing the settings in the System applet in the Control Panel by choosing Advanced ➪ Environment Variables.
