The Market Survey
The first step in selecting a product or software component is discovering the choices that exist for that component. This part of the software-selection process is called the market survey. Essentially, a market survey is a search for
all products that fit within a particular product category. Use the search to collect and organize information about the products. At this point, you’re not usually weeding out any products, but rather trying to collect as much information
as you can about as many relevant products as possible.
Years ago, this might have been accomplished by reviewing magazine advertisements and reading reviews. Today, though, the Web makes this process much faster and easier.
